Yra's story

Shamyra Tala Lee considered herself a lucky kid. Growing up, she was taken care of by her mom and grandparents. These three people were her role models growing up.

Yra's playful personality was from her Lolo who would let her play outside during the morning and have her come home by afternoon with mud on her hands or scratches on her knees.It was her Lola who balanced this chaotic energy by teaching her to be responsible enough to know when it is time to come home after a day of playing outside, knowing how to help with household chores, and when to be strong enough to stand up for herself.And it was her Mama who taught her that at the end of the day, it's okay not to reach people's expectations of who they want you to be. She always had her Mama hold her at night while they whispered to each other the things that happened throughout their days, making sure Lola didn't hear them. They were sure that the woman had the ears of a dog.The old couple opened a small bakery when Yra was just a baby to support their finances. Taking care of a newborn and a college student was not as easy as they thought it would be. While her Lolo was busy being head architect most days, her Lola was busy taking care of their small business.With a childhood filled with so much color, nature, pastries, and love, Yra believed that it was the way things were supposed to be. As a kid, she was always asked where her father was, she would shrug with a smile and continue with her day. Because with a childhood like hers, she forgave her father for leaving them when she was only a baby. Maybe Yra wouldn't be the woman she is today if he stayed.

Yra's life now

Being surrounded by a busy city was something Yra never dreamed of. She always thought she would stay in her province with her grandparents while her mother worked as a corporate lawyer abroad--the first of their family.

Yet life will always have its way to keep itself interesting. It was during college that she realized that she longed for the noisy streets with people living their own lives and often had places to be. She loved the feeling of being able to go back home after long hours of noise. She loved observing the people around her, often getting lost in her thoughts as she thought about their lives.Her grandparents wanted Yra and her mom to live the lives they wanted, and now, they are.Shamyra Tala Lee now works in Human Resources and lives in Taguig City. She still has the playful, strong-willed, and loving personality that she was always known for.And with the city's bustling noise, Yra continues to strive for more.
